Congrats to the Cats
On April 2, 2012 the UK Wildcats men’s basketball team cemented its place into NCAA history and Kentucky basketball lore with a 67-59 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks. It was the University of Kentucky’s 8th National Championship and the first for head coach John Calipari. The 2012 Kentucky Wildcats notched one impressive win after the next by utilizing an unparalleled level of talent. This was Kentucky’s season and they owned the spotlight for March Madness. Returning from a Final Four this season’s past, this group of Wildcats were balanced with a perfect blend of experience and talent. Maintaining poise in the face of youth, the young Cats showcased why they were the team to beat for most of the regular season. Coach Calipari played a regular 7 man rotation consisting of 4 freshmen, 2 sophomores, and 1 senior. Despite being amongst the youngest squads in Division I, the Kentucky Wildcats proved that talent trumps experience. Anthony Davis claimed the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament Award and adds it to a growing showcase of individual achievements consisting of Freshman of the Year, SEC Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and National Player of the Year. Davis will join as many as 6 UK Wildcats in this year’s NBA Draft, including Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Terrence Jones, Doron Lamb, Marquis Teague, and Darius Miller. Congratulations to the Kentucky Wildcats on an unforgettable season that concluded with the hanging of banner number 8.
